Office Chair Despair

A few months ago a friend of mine asked if I'd like to take on some old chairs for a DIY project, and of course my answer was "yes!". Her directions were that if I couldn't make it work then to give them away...give them away?! Never! A DIYer never gives stuff away.

I won't lie though...getting past the tacky brown fabric took about a week until I could finally see through the DIY clouds and get focused.

Anyhow, I went on the AMAZING fabric website fabrics.com and searched for a few weeks until I finally settled on the fabric 'Premier Prints Towers Onyx'. I highly recommend this site! They have super speedy shipping, and will ship you swatches for a few bucks so you can take a look at your fabric before you actually make your purchase. Even with shipping and duties (coming from the U.S.) it still works out to be very affordable fabric.

I ordered 6 yards (way too much for this project, but now I have leftovers for pillows!) and started in on the deconstruction...

I attempted to add some buttons to created a simple tufted look (like the image below), but due to the curved back on the chair it proved to be difficult and not necessary...so I scrapped that idea!

After a few hours of removing staples, cutting fabric, sewing, stapling and then screwing the chair back together, the DIY project was complete...

Next time you think about giving away old chairs, give yourself some time to think on it! I'm so happy I could salvage these chairs and give them back to their lovely owner.

Bye for now,

Emily Grace
