the BIG Announcement.

So I have BIG - and I mean BIG - news to announce. Cue the fireworks, crack open the champagne, drum roll please - I have officially bought land! One whole acre to call my own!

This adds the biggest gold star ever to my 'grown-up' board! 

This is exciting on many levels...
#1. No more living at home with my parents - I love them (and the home cooked meals!) but it's time I move on out.
#2. The DIY projects will never end - amazing!
#3. I will finally have my own space to design and decorate from the bottom up - this could not make me any happier!

This also means my blog will take you through my journey as a first-time home builder - all the ups & downs, lessons learned (hopefully not too many!)... I'll spill all the beans right here.

I have no experience in home building at all, but with the right attitude and support from family and friends, this is going to be an experience I will never forget. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to build my very own home and I can't wait to start sharing every step of it with you.

Embracing the Cottage Country

Over the summer I took a little trip to the cutest little spot in Newfoundland - Cupids.

I had the absolute pleasure of taking a tour of an absolutely gorgeous cabin (that's right, we call them cabins here in Newfoundland, not cottages!). This cabin is a classic saltbox house that over the years has become the definition of charming.

I apologized while I was there for taking so many pictures...I just couldn't help myself! You'll see why...

Isn't that just the cutest red ladder on the roof!? 

The best part of it all is I also picked up a few inspiring DIY ideas! Get this - the husband actually thought of the DIY ideas. Don't ever underestimate a man's craftiness and creativity! 

 An old Newfoundland stamp is stencilled onto some plank boards. 

Old potato sacks were framed, and voila - instant country art.

Oh, I could only dream of having such a charming cabin to call my own! One of these days...

Desperately Holding onto Summer, Project.

For those of you who know me well, you know that I strongly dislike fall. Yes, I know you get to wear scarfs again, and wear comfy clothes, and go for nice walks and look at the beautiful leaves changing - I'm not convinced. Fall means to me that summer has come and gone again, and it will be another year until it's back. And I love summer.

So, whilst in the fall blues on this sunny Saturday, I decided to do one last 'desperately holding onto summer' project. Now this one is SUPER easy, and takes about...ohhh thirty seconds to complete. All you need is one old rake head and one nail. By now, you may have worn out all your summer tools so this may be just the project for you.

My parents happened to have a rake that had fallen off the handle, so instead of throwing it out, I decided to use it as a cute country way to organize and display garden tools.

Now if you really want to snazz it up a bit, you can always clean the rake  and maybe put a coat of spray paint on it, but hey I was too lazy for that and also quite liked the rustic look of the worn rake head.

If you can remember this one for next summer, I stumbled upon this really neat idea for planting lettuce that I thought I'd throw out there...also a great way to make use of old garden tools.

Gettin' Inspired with Crayons.

Recently I was at a little gathering and received a loot bag...yep I'm 25 years old and still get loot bags. How awesome is that!? In this loot bag of mine was a pack of crayons. It was INSTANT INSPIRATION! I couldn't believe the beautiful array of colours!

Within about 2 mins I had chosen a colour scheme for my 'imaginary room'... inspired from just this one little box of crayons.

I was really diggin' a bit of bubble gum pink, sandy beach, snowball, and blue (those are the fun crayon colour names!). A combination I normally wouldn't have thought of without my handy dandy crayons. Within minutes I found some beautiful inspiring photos, and lo and behold I was inspired to create a mood board.

I envisioned a light and airy room with bamboo curtains, white pillar candles, blue and pink patterned pillows, soft pink flowers, gold picture frames, clear glass lamps, and a little bit of bead board to finish it all off.

My inspiring paint colours of choice are four colours from Benjamin Moore (no, unfortunately I'm not sponsored by them)...

Rose Rococo, In Your Eyes, Light Breeze & White Chocolate

I'm always amazed at where my creative inspiration comes from, so remember to never limit yourself!

Whether it be through exploring pinterest, looking at flowers, nature or even a box of crayons, inspiration is all around us. Just open your eyes and be willing to receive what inspires you and run with it!

I've had so much fun with my box of crayons...who says crayons are just for kids? These bad boys are going in a mason jar on my desk and will not only get put to use, but as well add some fun colour to my currently 'blah' looking office...(that's another project on the list!). Here's to colourful days and gettin' creative like a child!
